Professional Mediums
Iridescent Pouring Medium
Key Features
- Gives even poured puddles and acrylic skins resulting in a iridescent shimmer with no crazing, cracking or bubbles. Dries to an iridescent shimmer.
- Can be mixed with any acrylic paint to get smooth, even colour films without increasing the transparency of the colour. Extends your color further without affecting acrylic stability
- Resistant to aging - the medium does not yellow, dries waterproof, remains flexible after drying and maintains a strong finish.
- Maintains paint adhesion, durability and archival quality
- Watering applications - it prevents hair cracks and bubbles in drip and pouring applications, even with puddles and acrylic skins.
How to Use
- Formulated to create a smooth, seamless, and strong body of paint when poured or dripped onto a surface.
- Designed to increase flow, eliminate crazing, and to give a high gloss flexible finish.
- For best pours, start with with a tablespoon of Soft Body color to a cup of Pouring Medium (around 5% color to 95% medium) and adapt to suit your technique. To use with Acrylic Ink or Heavy Body Acrylic, adjust ratio to get your desired consistency.
- Stir gently to avoid creating foam - if bubbles appear, leave it to sit while the bubbles rise and disappear
- Crazing and cracking can occur when the flow heights are very uneven so ensure your poured surface is level when drying.

Lightfastness | How long will it resist fading?
- Each pigment is rated on scale by the American Society for Testing & Materials (ASTM). Liquitex paints are all rated ASTM I (excellent) or II (very good) and considered permanent and lightfast for 50-100+ years in gallery conditions. Our metallic and fluorescent colors are naturally less lightfast.
Opacity/Transparency | We communicate opacity/transparency clearly on our packaging based on three categories:
- Opaque: these colors do not allow light to pass through the color layer and offer the best coverage or hiding power.
- Semi-opaque: these allow for some light to pass through the color layer and sit between opaque and transparent colors
- Transparent: these colors offer the least coverage and allow light to pass through the color layer to the surface below.
- Series:
Pigments come from a variety of sources and have different prices according to their rarity, processing and milling costs. We group our colors into a 'series' pricing structure according to how much each one takes to make. Series 1 colors contain the most inexpensive pigments, while Series 4 and 5 color contain the most expensive pigments.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Other creatives have asked us...
Can I do a pour with water and acrylic mix instead of with Liquitex Pouring Medium?
Achieving a quality pour is best with Liquitex Pouring Mediums, ensuring a strong, smooth, and crack-free result.
What's the difference between Liquitex Flow Aid and Pouring Medium?
Pouring Medium maintains structured, smooth consistency, while Flow Aid instantly thins and adds transparency, breaking surface tension. Pouring Medium contains acrylic resins, whereas Flow Aid is resin-free and needs dilution.
Which Liquitex medium should I use for the best pour?
Liquitex Pouring Mediums (gloss, matte, iridescent) are specifically formulated for acrylic pouring.
