How to Use
- Apply directly from the tub with a knife and overpaint or mix into acrylic color and use freely. Recommended thickness for crackling effect is between 5 and 10 mm
- Can be used on its own and painted over once dry
- Can be mixed with acrylic color – using no more than 10% paint to 90% medium
- Cracking will vary depending on how thickly you apply it - the effects will be more obvious on thicker applications but will take longer to dry
- When using on wood, seal with a base layer of fluid/gel medium and let dry before Crackle Paste application

Lightfastness | How long will it resist fading?
- Each pigment is rated on scale by the American Society for Testing & Materials (ASTM). Liquitex paints are all rated ASTM I (excellent) or II (very good) and considered permanent and lightfast for 50-100+ years in gallery conditions. Our metallic and fluorescent colors are naturally less lightfast.
Opacity/Transparency | We communicate opacity/transparency clearly on our packaging based on three categories:
- Opaque: these colors do not allow light to pass through the color layer and offer the best coverage or hiding power.
- Semi-opaque: these allow for some light to pass through the color layer and sit between opaque and transparent colors
- Transparent: these colors offer the least coverage and allow light to pass through the color layer to the surface below.
- Series:
Pigments come from a variety of sources and have different prices according to their rarity, processing and milling costs. We group our colors into a 'series' pricing structure according to how much each one takes to make. Series 1 colors contain the most inexpensive pigments, while Series 4 and 5 color contain the most expensive pigments.

"I loved using this Liquitex crackle paste! I used it on a vintage looking nightstand for my son and it turned out great! I mixed a little paint with the paste and brushed it across the top of the nightstand. I left it nice and thick, per the instructions, to make sure it crackled. The effect was awesome! After a little time to dry, the results were amazing! My son and I are both so happy with it! It's a pretty thick paste, that's not hard to apply. I used a thick brush with very fine bristles to achieve the look I was going for. I very happy with the effects of this product and will happily recommend it to anyone looking to have some DIY fun!"

"I've never used a paste and wasn't sure the best way to implement this�I used it as a base suggestively so. It takes a moment to dry, and you don't need to layer it. Of course, you can used a opaque layer on top for color for best results, such as a water color. It really adds a nice touch to any mixed-media project. I like to call it a "croc-effect" as my children have rightfully named it. Definitely a fun one to play with! (I don't post my artwork examples due to previously stolen images, but feel free to contact me if you need any advice [@sydcvlx3s].)"

"I tried this product in multiple ways. I tried thin layers and thicker layers, I tried it plain and over other color base coats, and I could not get it to work well. Too thin layers didn't crack, and using the suggested thickness just caused it to crack off my medium. A middle thickness left some cracks if using it without mixing in a color, but it left only small cracks that would disappear if I tried to cover it with any coats of a different color. Overall, I would not recommend this product."
Works great
"The Liquitex crackle paste works great. As long as you read the instructions before you apply it, it 100% does crackle. You can't apply too many coats too quickly or use a heated blow dryer to dry the mixture. If you do it won't crack right. All in all this is a good product. Just follow the instructions and it'll be peachy!"

"I used this crackle paste to accent the sides of a painting panel and it worked as expected. I applied a thin layer of soft gel gloss on the cradle, allowed it to dry, then applied the crackle paste. The cracks are small, but the layer I applied was thin so I'm sure the cracks would be more dramatic in thicker layers. Just need some trial and error. I have familiarity with other brands that don't crack or work at all, so this is definitely an awesome product!"
Texture quality was wonderful!
"Wonderful texture! Great if creating a textured piece. Overall texture is grainy similar to mixing sand into paint. It works great when blending with colors or on its own. I love the matte finish it leaves and Was great when trying to give a 3D texture or just add a little something. Fun to work with and I'd definitely purchase again. *I did receive this as a promo"
